Boy Helps Solve Bridge Across Niagara Falls
In 1848 plans for a bridge over Niagara Falls faced a cable challenge. A boy won five dollars by piloting a kite with a string across the 800 foot gap, enabling a small steel cable to be pulled over. This led to the first steel suspension bridge below the American falls with an 820 foot span.
