Range rider killed when horse bolts
Hilrnd Taylor 45 a Melrose district resident died after being dragged by his saddle horse in the Vipond district west of Melrose. Coroner Schwartz said death was instantaneous from a broken neck and skull fracture. The body was found by Bud Tait. Taylor was a Vipond association rider and World War II veteran. New Water Main Installation Progress Along Railroad Avenue
City engineer Sam Ward reports the start of a 900 foot trench for a new water main on Railroad avenue from the Kurtz home to Franklin street. Traffic will be shut off during pipe laying and two hydrants will improve fire protection in the northern city during construction. Previous mains were installed on California and Idaho streets.

Man Wanted Here Held at Tacoma
Glen Salmonson, sought on a forgery and worthless checks warrant, has been arrested in Tacoma. Sheriff Paul Temple confirmed the arrest, with Salmonson allegedly cashing $300 to $400 in bad checks at Dillon business houses two weeks earlier, one a forgery. He reportedly waived extradi tion and will be brought back to Dillon for arraignment.

Danish Ranch Hand Ras Peterson Dies After Truck Crash
Ras Peterson 68 died at Barrett Hospital after injuries from a truck crash on October 4 at Pete Anderson Ranch Robb Creek in the upper Blacktail area. He was tossed from the rear of a loaded truck and succumbed to a broken leg and possible internal injuries. Born in Aro Denmark, he lived in the community 45 years and worked for Pete H. and John H. Anderson, Cook Sheep Co., and briefly ran a sheep business at Glendale. funeral held at Brundage chapel with Rev. Edward R. Leivestad officiating.

George Bowring from Dillon is among 28 senior students at the state university who began cadet teaching in Missoula schools as part of teacher training. Bowring, a music major, will teach vocal music at Missoula County High School. Style Show Showcases Historic Fashions at Alma Tea
An old fashioned style show at St. James guild hall drew over 200 attendees for two sessions. Fifty eight costumes traced fashion from Civil War era to the turn of the century with wedding gowns dating pre 19th century. Narrator Robert Gregg described each period’s garments while Fred Honeychurch accompanied on piano.
