An analysis claims 6,000,000 cars in use yield 54 billion auto passenger miles annually, surpassing railroad figures by over 20 billion. With 30 million seating capacity, autos carry far more people than rail cars. replacing them would need 60,000 coaches and 14,972 locomotives at about 1.184 billion dollars plus costs.
Miles City Oct 18 County commissioners at their convention adopted a resolution to form a committee of county officials to prepare a new tax measure to be presented to voters at the next general election and not sent to the state legislature. They also passed a plan to limit new commissions and job creation until funds exist and to halt public official salary increases until funds are available. Glacier National Park named as next convention site in September. Officers elected include A K Bowman president John A Rainey first vice president G W Meyers second vice president R W Blakesley secretary and treasurer R M Biggs G M Fabian Martin Johnson and B J Phe lan.
