Big Hole Basin Pioneer William Montgomery Dies
William Montgomery, wealthy Big Hole Basin cattleman and landowner, died at his Wisdom ranch after a brief pneumonia illness. He was born in 1862 in Ireland and moved to Montana in 1884, locating in 1886 in the Big Hole Basin where he built extensive ranch holdings and fed large cattle herds. He leaves eight children and was a longtime Beaverhead County Democrat and former county commissioner. Funeral services were held at Wisdom’s Masonic Temple with large attendance. Interment followed in Wisdom cemetery.

O. C. Gosman testified in Shoshone against Frank Sullivan and Jack Carney, sentenced to long prison terms. The pair had prior arrests in Lima for post office robbery, prowling the Lusher store, and shooting at a brakeman. Big Demand for Work Horses at Recent Sale
The horse gale last week sold about 300 head over two days with George Ditty Frank Games and Sullivan Brothers top buyers. Most horses shipped to Miles City Willow River Minn and Idaho. Top price paid was 205 dollars for a single animal with Hans Mickelson taking 175 dollars. Demand for work horses was strong and the sale will pause until midwinter auction in February.
