Forest homesteaders freed from survey cost by new policy
Washington to allow unsurveyed lands in national forests to be listed and patented without a second survey. Forest service surveys will be accepted by the land office as final, reducing expenses and saving time for homesteaders. The change stems from an agreement between the interior and agriculture departments and aims to simplify forest homestead settlement in the West.
