The American harvest and its wartime triumph
Up from the Meadows NCE highlights record crop production during war years driven by fewer farmers and expanded acres. It notes corn yields over 100 bushels per acre, hogs doubling in six months, hens laying 200 plus eggs annually, and dairy cows yielding 30000 pounds milk with 1000 pounds butterfat. Swift & Company salutes farmers for feeding America and aiding national greatness and victory.

An experiment at New Mexico A&M tracked 863 Hereford calves from 1936 to 1943. Steers averaged 443 pounds at weaning versus 411 pounds for heifers, with steers consistently heavier across 12 size groups. Bulls were castrated around June and, except early years, dropped about five days later than heifers.
