H. F. Trautman, 33, was found in a local rooming house with a .25 caliber bullet wound to the head but survived nearly 24 hours after an apparent self inflicted shot. He died at Barrett hospital before noon Sunday, inspiring physicians with his persistence.
The 1938 Christmas Seal campaign will feature the slogan Protect Your Home From Tuberculosis announced by local seal sale chairman Mrs. F. D. Willis. The design shows a mother and two children in Victorian dress lighting a candle in a home window to symbolize enlightenment against the disease and includes portraits of four tuberculosis leaders as historical mention of their wartime deeds.
The delinquent tax moratorium ends Wednesday November 30 with penalties and interest restored November 31. County Treasurer Bertie Mathews urges taxpayers to pay now to save money as only about one third of assessments are paid and a final rush is expected at the treasurer’s window.

Charles S. White and Al Cramer were detained after a Thursday argument over money in Bannack Street's Buffet. White, 68, pleaded guilty to a disturbance and drew 30 days in county jail after firing a shot into the floor. he was beaten in a later clash and arrested with Cramer, who was later released.
A crew of five CCC boys from Birch Creek camp supervised by a foreman is building a ski slide at Elkhorn Springs. The project aims for completion shortly after Thanksgiving as the Dillon Ski Club selected the hillside, clearing trees rocks and stumps to boost winter sports appeal.
The Dil Jon Elks lodge schedules two annual events for next month the memorial services and a charity ball. The memorial service will be Sunday Dec 4 at the training school auditorium with Dillon attorney T F McFadden delivering the address. The charity ball is planned for Saturday nite Dec 17 at the city hall auditorium as a benefit dance with Carl Anderson as committee chair. Members of the Elks drum and bugle corps Montana and Idaho champions were guests at a lodge party with Esteemed Leading Knight Frank Lasich as committee chairman. The corps recently won state laurels at the Montana Anaconda convention and placed first at the Idaho Falls gathering. A brief program and refreshments followed, with motion pictures shown by Elmo Winn and Ott Gordon.
William J. Heaston Sr was found guilty of first degree murder by a jury after deliberating since 5:10 the previous afternoon. Punishment was fixed at life imprisonment. Heaston was accused of killing Wise River rancher Joseph W. Potts during a July 24 altercation in Potts daughter’s yard. Heaston fired three shots, two hitting Potts. The jury reached a first ballot verdict on guilt and then decided on the life term. Heaston took the verdict calmly.
Miss Lillian Stone resigned as part time Beaverhead county home demonstration agent at the achievement day program held in the training school auditorium. She will become full time agent for Lewis and Clark county with headquarters in Helena starting December. Stone organized home demonstration clubs and advanced 4 H work, earning wide regard. Mrs Marcus Rand presided and Dr Marlin K Farmer spoke on Hitler and World Peace as Stone outlined next year’s program.
Beaverhead county's annual Red Cross roll call closes tomorrow if the quota is met. drive began after Armistice Day and is believed successful. Regular session of the Beaverhead board of county commissioners met Nov 7 9 1938 with members Hartwig Jackson Rife and Clerk Baker present. A forest service telephone line through specified sections was authorized. Rewards were ordered for information leading to arrest and conviction for theft of county property.
Dillon recorded its first sub zero temperature of the season with a minimum of six below as a cold snap intensified from Sunday. Snow flurries yesterday threatened to become blizzards while colder readings were expected in other parts of the county tonight.
Montana cattle are in the best condition in years as they enter the winter on ranges that are under stocked. State veterinarian Dr. W. J. Butler cites the heavy grass crop this year and larger than normal shipments out of the state during the dry years as factors in the improved condition.
The Dillon Girl Scout council met at Mrs. H. M. Warner’s home and learned that every organization surveyed supported a proposed city park. Funds may be raised by a special tax levy with only city taxpayers able to vote in April. The council also discussed the Christmas matinee dance plans.
Beaverhead County High School will evacuate on December 16 for demolition and relocation. Students will attend classes in all rooms one last day while equipment is stored countywide. Bids for five contracts including razing, new two story building, plumbing heating electrical and equipment will be opened December 14.
Three men were arraigned before Judge Henry G. Rogers and pleaded guilty to larceny. Burton Bachellor drew eight years, Terry O'Hara received one year, for allegedly stealing a car in front of Roy Forster's residence last month. The vehicle belonged to a Butte man.
Dr. Paris E. Wells, pastor of the Presbyterian church, told Dillon Rotarians about Thanksgiving and American freedoms. He praised scientific luxuries and religious liberty while noting Montana's friendly Treasure state and welcoming new members Ed Hilger Gilbert Hilde and Paul Anderson. Guests Percy Frazier of Butte and high school student John Carr attended. Lambert Eliel chaired.
Montana State Normal College Dolphins will present a water pageant in the college plunge on Friday and Saturday nights December 2 and 3. Miss Marjorie Hamer, producer and director, announces Mary Phillips as student director. The theme is The Wedding with scenes Meeting courtship wedding reception and charivari. Participating performers include Mary Phillips Loretta Anderson Henrietta Broekema Maxine Cline Marion Combes Rosanna Miller Madalyn McDonnell Arlette Williams and Alice.
Beaverhead residents prepare for Thanksgiving with Union services at the Presbyterian church from 10 30 to 11 30 in the morning. Rev J A Meeke to preach and the Presbyterian choir to provide music. That evening the annual firemen's dance will be held at the city hall auditorium with Frisco Bakers band. Many Dillon residents plan to travel to other points despite cold weather.
