Memorial Services Planned by Dillon Elks Lodge

Dillon Elks Lodge schedules memorial services Sunday at 7 in the training school auditorium. Attorney T. F. McFadden will deliver the address, Exalted Ruler Elmo Winn to lead the ritual, and Ralph McFadden piano numbers with vocal solos by Mrs. Vera Cooke Hazel. Committee includes Oscar Griffiths, Carl Anderson, and Matt Kay. Open to the public.

Motion for New Heaston Trial Filed

A motion for a new trial in the William J. Heaston Sr case, found guilty of first degree murder in district court on November 18, was filed by defendant's attorney J E Kelly. A separate motion for arrest of judgment, filed November 19, was denied by Judge Henry G Rodgers. Heaston remains in custody.

Rotary Guest Discusses Football Subsidies and Ethics

Beaverhead county high school student John Carr spoke at the Dillon Rotary about football funding in U S universities. He described illegal indirect hiring as widespread and called football a fifty million dollar racket questioning its educational value. Dr Sheldon E Davis summarized a Chicago trip and a Normal College musical group performed including Nadine Kuss and others.

Dillon Girl Wins Union Pacific 4-H Scholarship

Miss Anna Christensen, Beaverhead County High School graduate, received Union Pacific's 4-H club scholarship for this year. The $100 cash award supports study in agriculture or home economics at Montana State College, where she is a freshman. Christensen was selected as the top 4-H club worker in the county based on club activity and leadership qualities.

Juniors Sweep Beaverhead County High Tourney Titles

In Beaverhead County High School interclass play the Junior A topped Senior A 29 13 to win the first division while Junior B beat Senior B 26 13 for the second. Sophomores defeated Freshmen 19 18 for consolation as the regular team drills for upcoming games.

Taxpayers rush to beat 5 pm deadline at Beaverhead County Treasurer Bertie Mathews office. Many used the tax moratorium expiring today while Dillon residents celebrated Thanksgiving with services, gatherings, and a Fire Department dance at City Hall. Appointment Miss Stone Official Home Demonstration Agent

J C Taylor announced Miss Lillian Stone of Dillon as county home demonstration agent for Lewis and Clark, succeeding Neva Woods Magraw. Stone, four years in extension, has led Beaverhead county clubs, organized 12 home demonstration clubs and 15 4 H clubs, and is a Montana State College graduate from a Gallatin valley pioneer family.

Pair Sentenced On Disturbance Count Last Week

Earl Kelly was sentenced to 15 days in county jail after pleading guilty to a third degree assault charge. Mrs. William Pinkerton, arrested with Kelly in the Cabbage Patch, pleaded guilty to a disturbance charge and received a 90 day suspended sentence.

Use of Christmas Seals Promoted by Local Women’s Club

The local women’s club urges widespread use of double-barred cross Christmas seals to boost a life saving tuberculosis campaign. Chairwoman Mrs. F. D. Willis promotes how to display seals on greeting cards menus and gifts and notes sales December 3 and 10 at banks and the post office.

Cemetery Well Flow Proved In Recent Test

Mountain View cemetery project advances as the newly drilled well shows ample irrigation water. Fundraising by the Dillon club and community donations supported by the city and WPA funded the drilling, with trench work started and additional improvements planned. Chevalier Degree To Be Conferred On DeMolay Members

Two Beaverhead chapter DeMolay members George K. Christiansen and Fielding H. Graves will receive the Order of the Chevalier honorary degree at a public 8 pm ceremony Friday in the Masonic hall. Officers Bert Megquier W G Squires Wilbur Squires Matt Kay confer the degrees. Dr J A Meeke will give the principal address on Jaques DeMolay. Special music is planned with Matt Kay and W M Stine Jr in charge of arrangements.

Scholastic Journalists to Attend Zone Conference

High school journalism students from southwestern Montana will visit Beaverhead County High School for the first zone press conference. Invitations go to groups from Butte, Butte Central, Helena, St. Charles, St. Peters, Anaconda, Deer Lodge, Lima, Twin Bridges, Virginia City, Philipsburg, Drummond and Boulder. Representatives register 11 to noon with a noon luncheon at the Presbyterian church parlors.

Stone to Lead Annual President's Birthday Ball

Warren M. Stone is named chairman of the annual President's Birthday Ball in Dillon. Keith Morgan announces his appointment with Leo Truax of Lima and J P Loss of Wisdom as assistants. Dances in each district will fund the National Foundation on Infantile Paralysis, with 50 percent supporting local prevention chapters after Jan 30.

Old-Time Glendale Resident Dies at 71

Mrs. Maria Bezek, 71, longtime Glendale, Montana resident born in Austria on December 8, 1866, died at her home in Glendale yesterday. Survived by grandson Francis Bezel. Funeral likely Friday from St. Rose Catholic Church Dillon with interment in Glendale Cemetery.

Idaho driver pleads guilty in year-old traffic case

James Martin of Thornton Idaho pleaded guilty to a traffic violation charged over a year ago in Judge Louis Stahl's court. He was fined seventy five dollars after the arraignment held last Saturday. The case stemmed from a towing accident that occurred more than a year prior.
