Fertility Loss From Poor Manure Handling

Careless manure handling wastes fertilizer and organic matter needed to boost yields. A 100 ton load holds 25 tons organic matter and 1 000 pounds nitrogen with 200 pounds phosphorus and 800 pounds potash, half in liquid. Rain exposure can cut weight to 50 tons and halve fertility. use bedding to soak liquid, clean stalls, haul manure to fields, or store carefully to reduce losses.
