Beaverhead County High Plans Spring Concert
Beaverhead County High School music department presents its annual spring concert tomorrow at 8 o clock in the school auditorium under Honeychurch supervision. Proceeds fund transportation for about 50 Beaver High musicians to the district music meet in Helena. Part I features the orchestra with fast numbers and a massed orchestra piece. Part II presents the piano ensemble and solos by top winners from the Missoula meet. Performers include Alfreda Paddock Dorothy Newnes Janet Curry Tanya Johnson Geraldine Gillies Peggy Lou Sutherland Patricia McFadden Kay Whitworth Hewitt Martinell Sam Davis Eugene Bennett and Nora Jean French.

Mrs Babe Sebree Summoned in Dillon Obituary
Mrs Carrie Babe Sebree 67 longtime Dillon resident and Metlen hotel owner died yesterday at her Los Angeles home after extended illness. She came to Dillon as a girl, married Ralph Sebree, left Dillon over 30 years ago for California where she ran an orange grove and kept Metlen hotel ownership. She had no children and no other immediate local relatives survive.

Dillon Students Win Ribbons at High School Meet
Three Beaverhead county high school students placed in the upper third of state scholarship contests at Montana State College during 1947 high school week. Ramona Simon in home economics, Jim Roberts in plane geometry, and Frank Merrell in algebra II earned recognition, joined by eight other classmates. Accompanying staff were Miss Evelyn Mikkelson, Mrs Lenore Pecullum, and Mrs Lambert Biel.

Paneer of Suillon Dies at Her Home
Mrs. Martha E. Sapp 75 of Dillon, born 1871 in Seneca Kansas, died at home after a long illness. She married Thomas Sapp in 1889 the first license issued after statehood. Survived by husband, three sons and daughters in law, siblings, 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral Saturday at Brundage with Rev. Omer Idson officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery.

John Swetich 57 Dies After Illness in Butte Hospital
John Martin Swetich, 57, longtime Beaverhead County resident, died Saturday at Murray hospital in Butte after 23 days as a patient. Born in Yugoslavia January 13, 1890, he lived in Lima 16 years and Dillon 2. Survived by wife, two daughters Mrs Jack Thumma and Carolyn Swetich Dillon, three sons George in Japan, Walter and Joseph Michael of Dillon, two brothers Pete Swetich Stanford Montana and Joseph of Yugoslavia, and sister Mrs Julia Mahan Los Angeles. Funeral held in Dillon at Brundage chapel with Rev Dr J Thompson Baker officiating. burial in Lima cemetery.

Beaverhead County Sets Potato Planting Goals and Deadlines
Beaverhead county farmers are urged to plant within a 372 acre potato goal to fit national targets set by the Department of Agriculture. The 2.517 million acre national goal could yield about 375 million bushels, with price support tied to meeting these goals. Growers with 2.9 acres or less must apply by May 23 for price support, while those above must adhere to allocated goal acreages.

Edison W Kent Dies Suddenely in Philipsburg
Edison W. Kent longtime Granite county attorney and Philipsburg resident died suddenly at his home Sunday after a period of illness not thought serious. A Dillon native and Montana university law graduate, he served as Granite county attorney from 1929 with a Navy stint in World War I. Survived by wife Juanita Armour, two daughters Elizabeth and Jacqueline, and his father John Kent, the obituary notes his active civic life and affiliations including the American Legion, Masons, Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, Rotary, and Philipsburg Fire Brigade.

Professors Hulbert Cheever and F M Harrington along with Engineer Davis from the State college at Bozeman visited the Normal college campus on April 30 at Chancellor Selke's suggestion. They met with Pres. Rush Jordan to discuss building and grounds improvements including a heated plant renovation, landscaping changes, and upgrading the men's residence hall to add sleeping space for twenty two more men.

Brush Fires Sweep Area West of Dillon
A hot dry wind drove wildfires across about eight acres west of Dillon Saturday. Fire Chief O T Vandegrift called in extra volunteers while the forest service aided with equipment. Homes on Claude Lay Jack Burrell and Barnes properties were threatened, some within five feet of flames and roof fires. The blaze, started by discarded cigarettes on the Cornell ranch, was brought under control with minimal damage.
