Constitution discussed by Rush Jordan at Rotary meeting

The Montana State Normal College professor Rush Jordan described constitutions as the foundation of government during a weekly Di ion Rotary club dinner. The Beaverhead county board of commissioners met March 1 2 3 1937 in regular session with action on unread reports and a request from Lima township for a constable.

John Wenger Decorated for Bravery at Legion Meeting

Beaverhead post of the American Legion awarded John Wenger the Order of the Purple Heart at Canyon Resort near Dillon. Wenger was wounded in Flanders in October 1918 while with the 1st Division and had earlier earned the Croix de Guerre from King Albert of Belgium. Paul O. Cash was to receive the award later. The post discussed junior baseball, with four teams planned for inter ward play. Membership stands at 120 with six more needed to reach a top for recent years.

Junior High Honor Roll and College Music Festival Plans

The piece notes the posting of a Junior High School Honor Roll and reports a joint concert planned for April 2 at the College Auditorium. Elk Drum Corps Dance At Dillon Elks On March 27

The Dillon Elks drum fife and bugle corps will sponsor a dance at its headquarters on Easter Eve Saturday March 27. An orchestra drawn from corps members will provide music and refreshments will be served during the event.

The fourth annual Livingston livestock show and sale will occur Monday October 29 as announced by Elmer Johnson sales manager. Refords polled Herefords and Shorthorns will be listed with consignors from across the state. Auctioneers Fred Report and C N Moore from Dillon are noted. Eleven pledges took the oath to W A A at an initiation Monday March 8 after completing 20 hours of winter quarter non credit sport. Pearl I. Smith a prominent businessman and former state senator, injured when his car was hit by a vehicle driven by Tony Panion. Panion arrested for drunken driving. wife and son treated for injuries at Barrett hospital. State Trapshoot Dates Set for Dillon Montana

Dillon Gun club officials fixed Montana state trapshoot dates for Friday through Sunday June 4 to 6 at Dillon. The national association accepted the dates and the event is expected to draw shooters from the Northwest and beyond, with Dillon defending its five year title. Scores from a recent practice shoot included Wiant 46x50 Apgar 45x50 Westergard 38x50 Campbell 36x50 Walt Jones 41x50 Chico 26x50.

Conrad Orr Renamed School Head At Beaverhead High

Conrad O. Orr, principal of Beaverhead County High School, was reappointed for a three year term by the board of trustees. He came from Hinsdale where he was superintendent of schools and previously led Noxon schools. A State University graduate and former Missoula high coach, he is among Montana’s leading educators.

School Bus Slips On Dell Road Near Dell

Mrs. Bert McNinch and her daughter escaped with minor injuries when the Dell school bus, driven by Mrs. McNinch, slid from the highway after hitting a soft shoulder near Dell. The bus was en route to pick up five regular passengers while replacement driver Mrs. Renfro recovers from a broken leg. Deputy Ted Renfro investigated, with County Nurse Luella Stickney present.

Orphans Home Wins Grade School Meet Title

State Orphans Home of Twin Bridges defeated Dillon public schools 18 to 12 to capture the grade school district basketball championship. Twin Bridges previously won the title in 1935. Boylan led Dillon, while Smith and Bradley starred for Twin Bridges. Wisdom impressed by challenging Ramsay in a memorable semifinal.

Carr Named New Oliver Equipment Dealer in Dillon

F M Carr was named the Southwestern Montana Oliver dealer with a full line of Oliver farm machinery at City Fuel in Dillon. Ranchers will have local access to the famed equipment, previously unavailable locally. The Riverside Social club held its annual dinner and party at James Guild Hall Saturday.
