Beaverhead Man George Gosman Elected State Legion Commander
George M. Gosman of Dillon was elected department commander of the American Legion at the state convention in Livingston. Backed by mining interests, his victory came by a majority vote. Delegates named include Clarence Olson and J. B. Knight among others. Glasgow will host the next convention. Beaverhead post sent T. E. Gilbert C. A. Bechler and Paul H. Temple as delegates. Erick Frederickson, 33, Anaconda, whose car plunged into the Big Hole River, was found Sunday by two Butte fishermen. Dan Mooney aided in recovering the body.

Dillon Drum Corps Draw Big Crowds and Joe Metlen Dies
Drum and bugle corps from Dillon and Butte drew capacity crowds with the show Do Your Worst at Dart's hall on Thursday Saturday and Tuesday nights. Bruce Joe Metlen 49 a Beaverhead county stockman and state representative from Dillon died yesterday in a Rochester Minnesota hospital from complications after sinus surgery. He was born in Dillon September 1 1889 attended Dillon schools Missoula State University and Oxford and later ran a Beaverhead ranch before serving in the Montana House since 1928 and as Democratic floor leader.

Beaverhead county shows 80 percent of crop land in farms filing to participate in the 1939 agricultural conservation program. Rancher Amos Hansen Undergoes Appendicitis Operation
Dell rancher Amos Hansen visited Dillon last Friday to consult a local physician about his daughter who had just undergone an appendectomy at Barrett hospital. The doctor urged Hansen to be examined and hours later he himself was taken to the operating room for appendicitis.

WPA Funds Approved For Dillon Cemetery Project
A wire from Sen Wheeler reports the Works Progress Administration approved an allotment of $20 811 to improve a city owned cemetery in Dillon. The Dillon Business and Professional Women's club sponsors the project and is raising funds to match the federal award, with operation at the discretion of state WPA administrator Joseph E Parker.

High School Bonds To Be Sold Here July 17
The board of trustees announces bonds to finish and equip the new high school building. Amortization bonds are preferred, with serial bonds second. House OKs extension of mining assessment work deadline
The House passed a bill to extend from July 1 to October 1 the start date for the $100 annual assessment work required on each federal mining claim for the 1939 fiscal year. An identical Senate bill was introduced. The measure responds to miners forfeiting patents if no annual $100 is spent on improvements.
