Legion Delegates Off For State Convention

Beaverhead post Legion delegates leave for Livingston for the state convention. Officers and alternates from Dillon, including C A Bechler and Thomas E Gilbert, attend with aims to support George M Gosman for commander. Auxiliary delegates and mining district officers also travel for pre meeting work. A dance at Dillmont Park next Saturday funds cemetery improvements.

Idaho leaders press for improved inter state highway

A Dillon chamber delegation and Leadore Armstead representatives urged a new interstate route linking Armstead Leadore and Salmon. Montana Highway Commission discussed the project at Helena last Friday and invited a representative to Missoula for a forestry service meeting.

Mining Men Plan Session for Beaverhead County

Mining men from every district in Beaverhead County will meet Friday night June 30 in Dillon, as Pres. John Collins announced. Be joined by Carl Trauerman and Aug ust Grunert of the Mining Association of Montana, the leaders will discuss mining activities and urge attendance at the state convention in Bozeman August 18 and 19. Plans include a Beaverhead display of ores and minerals at the state meeting.

Rain Delays Beaverhead County Shearing Operations

Beaverhead County wool shearing is severely delayed by ongoing June rains. Only about 500000 pounds of wool have been delivered at the First National warehouse, far below the usual two million plus by mid June. Wool buyers are present but the market remains quiet.

Patricia Gilbert of Dillon and Barbara Hancock of Butte led the spring quarter honor roll at Montana State Normal college with three grade points per credit on an 18 credit program. Forty-seven students earned places on the honor list for earning over two points per credit on a normal program of fourteen or more credits.

Body still missing in Big Hole river after car plunge

Erick Frederickson, 33, of Anaconda, vanished after his car plunged 50 feet into the Big Hole river. His companion Pauline Brady escaped by swimming 125 yards to the bank. Beaverhead sheriff’s deputies have searched daily with no body recovered. a Page wire fence was placed near the old power dam to aid the search.

Dillon Students Win Degrees From Midwest Universities

Dillon residents earned college degrees from several midwestern institutions. William H. Bates received the M D from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor last Saturday. John Henry Gilbert Jr graduated bachelor’s from the University of Chicago at the 196th convocation on June 13. Marguerite Collins Schwab earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Wisconsin during its 86th annual commencement on June 19. James L. Kelly is listed on the Butte engineering roster.

Dillon Elks Lodge marks Flag Day salute

Dr. Marlin K. Farmer of Montana State Normal College addressed a cold windy crowd at the Dillon Elks lodge Flag Day exercises on the Union Pacific depot lawn. He noted the nation marks the 150th anniversary of the Constitution and the republic and urged faith in democracy through a century and a half of trials.

Dillon Gun Club Hosts Inaugural Registered Shoot

The Dillon Gun Club opens its new trapshooting plant with a registered shoot next Sunday. Presidents and shooters from Butte Anaconda Helena and other western Montana clubs plus Idaho groups are expected to attend. Lima and Sheridan clubs will send large memberships making it the season’s final major tuneup for the state shoot in Butte.

Dillon Rodeo Primed With Top Cowboys

Top hands of the wild west show will perform at Dillon’s annual rodeo at the fairgrounds next Saturday and Sunday under Emmett Womack of Ennis. Officials Check Lima Reservoir And River Flow

A. H. Tuttle and Henry Eagle of the USGS with R. H. Fifield and J. Tice of Montana water conservation visited Lima reservoir last week. They examined water distribution and storage at the dam, checked river flow above and below, and compiled figures. The officials conferred with the board of directors.
