Forests Prepare for Dangerous Fire Year in Region One

Region One forest officials organize air, vehicle, and pack-string mobilization for rapid fire response. Remount Depot at Nine Mile can deploy complete pack lines within 30 minutes to support up to 10,000-plus men, with equipment stockpiled in Spokane and Missoula warehouses for 24 hour distribution. May 11 to 20 fire danger readings show higher hazard versus prior years, due to dry duff, low humidity, strong winds, and sparse rainfall. Lookouts will be allocated as needed, starting with lower points and expanding after lightning appears.
