Montana State Normal college holds fortieth commencement

Graduation exercises for the eighth graders of the Normal College training school and the Montana State Normal College commencement featured speeches by Pres. Alfred E. Atkinson and Pres. Sheldon E. Davis. Diplomas were conferred by George M. Gosman with invocation by Rev. Arnold Nelson and music by Ralph McFadden and the college chorus.

Four State Titles Annexed by Dillon Trapshooting Club

Large Montana trapshooting meet at Dillon Gun Club over three days saw 100 gunners. Dillon won four state titles and retained the state team championship in a telegraphic race shoot-off with Sheridan. Emmett Simmons of Butte and Tom McMahon of Butte tied for singles glory. Simmons won the shoot-off 24 to 23. Lee Yealy of Shelby captured the Rod and Gun trophy with a 39 of 40 in a 15 singles 20 yard event.

Eagle Scout Award Goes to David Luebben at Court of Honor

The 30 year old Scout organization honors David Luebben with the Eagle Scout rank at a courthouse ceremony. Star and Life ranks go to David Curry and John Carr, with Carr set to join the World Jamboree in Holland next month. Cub awards list Wolf badges for Peterson Meade Davis Hawkins Brown, Woodside. Peterson Wins California Handicap Race Title

Herman Peterson, ex Dillon Gun Club star now in Los Angeles, won the California state handicap race last Sunday from the 24-yard line, breaking 94. Poor weather with high winds affected scores as his former club mates captured four Montana titles in their state meet.

Big Hole road group offers prizes for essays

The Big Hole road association executive committee in Wisdom awards 5.00 for first and 2.50 for second for a 500 word essay on a state highway through the Big Hole. Entries due July 3 to Mrs. Fred Hirschy Jackson Mont. A July picnic honors Old Timers. Also, Mr and Mrs Tom Kennelly welcome a son born Sunday at Barrett hospital.

Claudia Faust Pupils Present Annual Revue

The Claudia Faust School of Dancing staged its annual revue with a full audience at the training school auditorium. Dancers showcased a varied program including piano numbers by Hayess Baxter a vocal solo by Janet Smith with Louise Davidson accompanyer and a dance by Jeanne Peterson of Bozeman. Performers listed include Dolores Arrigoni Jo Ann Deputy Elsie Lloyd Merle Schmit troth Mary Lou Nelson and others.

Range Examiners Named for Beaverhead County

Beaverhead County selects 11 range examiners under the agricultural conservation program. Five are already at work, including Lloyd Bernhard Charles Schramm Burt Hurwitz Clem Kalitowski and Link Landell. Arrivals William Wagner and Richard Williams join the team as the remaining four are due within ten days. Each has a year or more of range examination experience and forest school backgrounds. The project covers 205000 acres in Beaverhead and 493000 acres in Madison counties.

East Helena ties Dillon 8 8 in state league opener after late-inning runs. Vandegrift and Robinson share mound duties for Dillon as eight errors aid six-hit game. Dillon slips to fourth while East Helena holds first with three straight wins. Dillon previously lost 11 4 to Anaconda as windy conditions sparked 14 errors total.

Talk On Indians Of Montana by Dr Albright

Dr R E E Albright of Montana State Normal College gave an address at the Dillon Rotary Club Monday night on early Montana Indians and their history. He noted that although clashes occurred, few Montana Indians participated in battles with whites, with many combatants coming from regions outside present Montana.

Dewey School Pupil Tops State Tests In Montana Districts

Forrest Long of Dewey leads state pupil test results with an average of 85.62, followed by Fred Arbour of Reichle and Jill Hirschey of East Fox. Seventh graders Patricia Smythe tops with 92.5 average, others include Neil Churchill, Beth Nay, and Anna Bell Marsing. Beaverhead County school trustees meet June 14 to set preliminary budgets.

Flag Day Program Arranged by Jackson Legion Post
