Highest Bridge Once In Montana
In 1883 a Northern Pacific crew completed the world’s tallest wooden railroad bridge near Missoula, Montana, a feat observed by Governor Isaac Stevens as a foresighted engineering milestone. The Marent trestle, named for the span, stood 226 feet high with the same height as later steel structures, reflecting early surveying and bridge work under I S P Weeks.
