Flames destroyed the Arnold Benson ranch home near Dillon early Thursday morning after starting from a kitchen flue. a ranch hand discovered the fire at about 5 30 AM and Benson heard cracking sounds earlier, attributing them to wind.

President's Birthday Ball Draws Big City Crowd
About 100 couples attended the annual President's Birthday Ball at the city hall auditorium Saturday night. Gross receipts exceeded $200 with around $150 to be donated to the Infantile Analysis Foundation via Beaverhead County. High school drill team members sold lapel tags raising about $12 for the cause. Boy Scout Week Plans Completed By Local Group
Plans for the annual Boy Scout week observance have been completed by the local citizens committee. Beaverhead county high school's cage squad lost two games last week ending a 12 game win streak. Sheridan defeated Beavers 27 22 Thursday night at Sheridan. The district tournament will be held February 22 to 24 on the Dillon floor where the team will play next. Montana State College freshman team beat Dillon for its first loss of the new season.

George Stewart Wins Union Pacific Scholarship
George Stewart, senior agricultural student at Beaverhead County High School, won Union Pacific scholarship for the coming year. Announced by instructor D. L. Johnson, the award honors the senior agricultural student with top scholarship and leadership. Stewart led Beaverhead Future Farmers and the high school students association, built a beef project from seven to 35 head, including seven purebreds, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stewart of Big Hole Basin, Tanch people.

Tom Benson Dies Sunday At Hospital
Thomas H. Benson, 50, Beaverhead county ranch man, died Sunday night at Barrett hospital after a two week pneumonia illness. Born September 26, 1889 in Florence Montana, he spent 22 years in Beaverhead county working on ranches and recently with Chris Larson. He served in World War I and was a member of the Beaverhead American Legion post.
