Reading across all churches of Christ, Scientist on December 10, 1939, the lesson sermon explored the idea that the universe including humanity is evolved by atomic force. It cited Psalms praising God's works and kingdom and cited Science and Health in affirming that Science reveals one Mind governing the universe in harmony.
From 1907 to 1920 the Christmas seal sale was a joint effort of the American Red Cross and the National Tuberculosis Association. Since 1920 the seal has been identified only with the National Tuberculosis Association.
Carl J. Traverman, Spokane Butte president of the Montana Mining association, urged a go between to resolve SEC disputes at the Northwest Mining association convention. He cited war era effects on manganese tungsten and chrome in Montana and urged practical cooperation between mining firms and regulators.
Helena miners press for reopening the Helena federal gold assay office closed in 1932 as an economy measure. In Butte a new Montana mining directory is being prepared by the Works Progress Administration with support from the Montana School of Mines and the Mining Association of Montana, directed by Dr. Francis A. Thomson Cecil R. Waldron and Carl J. Trauer. In Dillon the Ralph E. Davis Syndicate advances its Bonanza area project on ground once worked by George Metlen, boosting Montana gold production prospects.
George Gosman Dillon state commander will preside at the Montana department of the American Legion and auxiliary annual midwinter meeting in Helena in January 1921. Mrs E O Orelman Livingston auxiliary president will lead women’s meetings with three national officers attending: E H Davis Pueblo national vice president June W Valiant Denver national field secretary and Mrs G E Chambers Cut president for seven Northwestern states.
The WPA has set aside 90 495 for Montana to combat grasshoppers in 1940. The money funds poison bait mix and distribution to affected localities. The project is run by the state entomologist’s office and managed by Joseph E. Parker of Butte, a state WPA administrator.
Jocal society notes show Mrs Roscoe Dillett and Mrs Norah Mathews of Twin Bridges visiting Dillon on Saturday. Mr and Mrs Warren Shaw of Wisdom toured Dillon on Monday. Doctors Romersa Bimrose and Curry attended a dental health institute in Butte last Friday. Mr and Mrs Carter Edinger of Chicago vacationing with Mrs Ada Dart. Mr and Mrs George Graham welcomed a son Thursday morning at Barrett Hospital.
Mrs. Dave Hickman spent Monday and Friday with her parents, Mr and Mrs Fred Gill. Mrs Colonel Combs was called to the Ben Mallon home for Mrs Mallon's illness. Various families, including Pendergast and Rankin, traveled to Great Falls and visited relatives over the week with Christmas candy making and dinner gatherings.
The Wise River community building hosted the annual Christmas party with many guests including Mrs. H E Martin, Carol Edith, Mrs. R Potts, Mrs. Jesse Tope of Wisdom, and numerous members. Nearby activities included cattle delivery to James Dodd in Divide, visiting, popcorn Santa crafts, dinners, and a silver wedding celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Max Lewis in Fishtrap.
