The Clerk of the Court Norman Giles reports 118 marriage licenses issued in the past year, down from 121 last year but up from 110 in 1937. April and August led with 15 licenses each. Teacher Granted Leave of Absence for Winter and Spring Quarters

Arnold Clair, instructor in violin and public school music at the Normal college, receives leave to pursue graduate work at the University of Minnesota. He holds a Juilliard diploma and an M A from Iowa. Ralph McFadden and Grace Redburn will direct his classes. Mrs. Marguerite Birch Clair resigns to teach elsewhere.

Glad Yuletide Season Celebrated in Beaverhead

Beaverhead residents marked Christmas with church services across Dillon. Midnight masses at St Rose and St James. Grace Methodist held Sunday service. The First Lutheran and Presbyterian churches hosted programs. LDS Sunday school also held activities amid a cold spell that canceled some trips. Visitors noted abundant trees and festive lighting across homes.

Beaverhead High Gym Set for Opening Night Basketball

Tardy Winter Catches Up With a Vengeance

First Big Winter Blast Hits Beaverhead County

Old Man Winter arrived late but delivered a sharp cold snap with a 12 below zero low on Christmas Eve and 17 above the next day. Temperatures fluctuated to 12 below again Monday night, then 27 above yesterday as roads were affected and little new snow fell. Residents anticipated no livestock losses and prepared for the cold wave amid Montana weather quirks.

Beaverhead Sportsmen’s Group Reports Record Year

The Beaverhead Sportsmen’s association reviews a year of achievements in hunting and fishing. They planted hundreds of thousands of trout in Beaverhead streams and lakes, with many fish provided by the Butte Anglers club. The state fish and game department offered fish screens on two large irrigation canals as part of ongoing efforts to foster good will with ranchers.

New Beaverhead County High School Opens January 2

Beaverhead County High School will open in its new building on January 2 as classes resume after Christmas vacation. Students finish the last day in the temporary Normal College quarters, while carloads of new air interior and furniture arrive to outfit the imposing block square structure costing over $300,000.

Beaverhead County School Opens After $300,000 Build

County gains a large new high school in Dillon with construction largely complete this year. The Beaverhead county high school, costing over $300,000, stands as Dillon’s largest project and awaits its first occupancy as students prepare to move in. The Rural Electrification Act is noted in the continuation on page 4.

Wise River Man Acquitted by Jury in Liquor Case

Howard Bergen of Wise River was tried in Justice Court last Wednesday on a charge of selling liquor after designated hours. The jury found him not guilty after testimony from local residents. Bergen was arrested earlier this month and released on $500 bond.
