The state convention opens in Great Falls with delegates flooding the city. W. B. George leads Yellowstone supporters as gubernatorial candidate while Beaverhead backs S. W. Stewart for governor. Delegates depart for Butte to join Silver Bow for the Silver Bow Special. Governor Edwin L. Norris presides. a brief, harmonious campaign is expected ahead of November.
Sam V. Stewart, chairman of the democratic state committee and candidate for the gubernatorial nomination, visited Hamilton and reported three counties instructed for him Beaverhead and Madison endorsed him with Sweetgrass likely to join. He noted many counties not instructing delegates and predicted the Bull Moose split would aid a Democratic victory with Wilson favored by Republicans and Bull Moose sentiment strongest in Flathead Ravalli counties.
Elections rules govern a 1912 contest with voting by coupons. It outlines eligibility deadlines nomination close date August 19 and December 2 final counting at 6 pm with weekly tallies published. It bans soliciting and disallows employee participation and requires ballots to be sealed and votes to be cast via Montana Mercantile Co. or The Examiner channels.
The summer session ends Friday with two thirds of enrollees in actual attendance. Credit courses allow intermittent attendance toward a Normal diploma.
