Hoover calls White House conference on drought relief
President Hoover summoned governors from 12 states to plan a broad federal state relief program for drought areas in the Middle and Far Northwest and toward the Atlantic seaboard. The Red Cross was asked to stand by for emergencies as farm animals numbered about 12 million horses and cattle and hogs. Secretary Hyde reported the drought primarily affects animal feed crops but the overall food supply should not be seriously threatened.
