Visits in Dillon by early Montana freighter Charley Reeder
Charles Y. Reeder, who hauled the first machinery for the Alice mine and mill and the first wagon load of apples to Helena, visited Dillon yesterday. He recalled crossing the plains in 1864, freighting for major outfits, selling stock and oats, and his later ventures in beaverhead grain, sheep, and land deals with a final return to California. He praised old friends, recalled guiding Marcus Daly and Patsy Clark, and spoke of his Montana years as his best.
