Forest insect siege ends as Oregon beetle campaign succeeds
A government drive against the Ochoco national forest bark beetle, Dendroctonus monticolae, cut and burned infested trees to halt the outbreak. Despite earlier losses, 1912 efforts reduced infestations with 42 laborers under a forest officer directing removal and destruction of thousands of trees to prevent further brood emergence.
