State Aid Drops for Montana Schools, MEA Says
The Montana Education Association reports rising public school costs and shrinking state aid. It says state support will drop from 21 percent of 14 million to 16 percent of 19 million next year, forcing districts to seek eight additional mills. The MEA seeks teacher minimums from 2100 to 4125 annually and notes 100 more per classroom unit from a 550k fund increase. Robert Stoner says many teachers have won raises, others will seek contracts, while local boards weigh pay boosts. The group criticizes the 30th Legislature and expects worsening education funding ahead.
