Fred Hirschy Named to County Board in Temporary Appointment
Fred L. Hirschy, long time Big Hole basin rancher, was named as county commissioner to fill the vacancy from the death of Martin C. Jackson. District Judge Lyman H. Bennett issued the court order. Hirschy, a resident since 1894, operates a prominent livestock ranch and recently rebuilt after a fire. His wife, Mrs. Hirschy, is a Republican state committee woman from Beaverhead County.

President of College Attends Montana Education Meeting

Daughters of American Revolution Hold 44th Montana Conference
Montana Daughters of the American Revolution held their forty fourth annual conference in Dillon with Beaverhead chapter hosting. Delegates from 13 chapters reported a highly successful convention. Great Falls will host the 1948 meeting. State officers were largely re elected. chaplain spot will be held by the next hostess chapter. Louise Jannehill of Billings won the Montana Good Citizenship pilgrim draw. Sixty one delegates attended as the session blended business and social events.

Beaverhead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution established a scholarship of 25.00 dollars per quarter for a freshman girl, payable for three quarters starting September 1947. Track Activities Opened At College And Beaverhead High
Montana State Normal college opened track activities for the season while Beaverhead county high school continued interclass competition this week. Coach Royal Morrison is evaluating Beaver squad candidates for district and state meets as the season unfolds, with further events expected to determine a representative team. Coach Bill Straugh urged candidates for track, plus baseball, tennis and golf, as preparations intensify.

Dillon Native Cpl Larsen Transferred to 159th Field Artillery
Cpl Albert A Larsen son of Mr and Mrs Chris Larsen of Dillon has been transferred to the 159th Field Artillery Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division in Osaka Japan. Larsen enlisted February 1946, trained at Fort Knox, sailed overseas May 1946, and attended Beaverhead High School prior to service. He is among veterans from the 89th Field Artillery Battalion linked to late last year’s battle.

Dillon officials announce 2 to 3 p m Friday closure for Good Friday observances. A downtown community service at the Methodist church runs 1 to 3 p m with several denominations taking part. Union Pacific Discontinues Tourist Sleeping Cars

Officers from the Montana and Idaho Motor Transport associations plus state public utilities secretaries met at the Andrus hotel in Dillon to discuss a reciprocity license fee agreement. Idaho Falls president Sam Bennion said license fees were the last barrier to improved cross state motor transport relations, as Montana legislation now enables an agreement. Funeral services for Martin C. Jackson 67 prominent Beaverhead stockman and county commissioner were held Thursday morning at St. Rose Catholic Church. Requiem high mass was conducted by Rev. Fr. Tim Clifford. The rites drew a large turnout from the community and county officials.
