Mediation sought in Okaloosa school dispute over pay raise
For the second time in three years a federal mediator is to help resolve bargaining deadlock between the Okaloosa County Education Association and the Okaloosa County School Board. The impasse centers on pay and related raises with the board proposing 2.61 percent versus 9.9 percent from the teachers. The board notes nearly $1 million already spent on raises and benefits, with $1 million more possible. The OCEA requested mediation through the Public Employees Relations Committee in Tallahassee at no cost. Nearby, a surveyor is needed to locate park land and right of way on Holiday Isle as the Blue Ribbon Committee seeks updated land descriptions amid isle changes. The city council trimmed franchise-fee revenue proposals, while approving plans for the Admiralty Condominium and rezoning moves on properties along Main Street and near KOA campground and Gulf Power projects.
