A state Department of Transportation team inspected roads and bridges in the Destin area on Monday after Hurricane Elena. The Choctawhatchee Bay Bridge and U.S. 331 bridge were examined and deemed structurally sound with no washouts or rammed pilings detected.
State agency officials plan a Thursday 2 p.m. meeting proposed by Northwest Florida Water Management District Executive Director William McCartney to ease adverse publicity tied to the Old Pass Lagoon restoration controversy. The LOG reported the session amid environmental regulation chatter and harbor project concerns.
First Mutual Savings Association revealed Friday it will be acquired by The Pierce Group Inc. at 38.50 dollars per share, valuing the deal around 41.5 million dollars. The Pierce Group, already holding 9.9 percent, may also purchase 455000 additional shares at 33 dollars each.
