The Root The Marines in Beirut review by Hammel
Eric Hammel presents a critical account of the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit in Beirut from August 1982 to February 1984. He argues the Marines were sent to force PLO withdrawal under shaky aims, notes Israeli complicity, and portrays their limited rules of engagement and costly losses including the 23 October 1983 truck bombing.
