National survey of about 2,000 alumni shows 4-H bread program winners from 1965 to 1975 credit goal setting record keeping and public speaking with career success. Distinct professionals including a surgeon pharmacist nurse lawyer and designer cite 4-H as a foundation for objective setting organization and personal growth.
Destin Elementary has elected its first student council with fifth and sixth graders selecting two representatives and an alternate from each class. Teacher reps are Mrs Woodward and Mrs Butler, PTO rep Patce Strahan.
A citizen miniconference titled Escarola's Bays Yesterday Today and Tomorrow will be held October 12 at Big Lagoon State Park Pavilion. Sponsored by the Francis M. Weston Audubon Society Pensacola Bay Area League of Women Voters Northwest Florida Group Sierra Club and the Bream Fishermen's Association the event aligns with Coastweek 85 to raise awareness of coastal resources. Speakers include EPA researchers and UWF and University of Alabama scientists. The program runs 9 a.m. to 2 30 p.m with lunch at 11 45 a.m.
Racquet Club will host a USTA and FTA sanctioned tournament November 8 through 10 with singles and doubles divisions for men women open 35s 45s and a mixed doubles open division. Entry deadline is November 6 with fees 16 per person for singles and 8 per person for doubles. For information call Pat or Teri at 267 9263.
The Eglin Rod and Gun Club will host a high power rifle match on the fourth Saturday of each month through November. Entry closes at 8 30 a.m. on the day of the match. For more information call Hugi Manis at 678 7318.
