Gulf Power Sees All-Time One Hour Electricity Peak
Gulf Power reports a new one hour demand record on Wednesday July 11 from 3 to 4 pm reaching 1395 megawatts fueled by high temperatures and industrial usage. Previous peak was 1392 megawatts set July 14. Director John Oerting Jr notes cloud cover limited prior demand and all generating units remain available to meet higher demand. Gulf Power serves over 240,000 customers in Northwest Florida.

P Z Denies Request Bell Aire Zoning Change
Okaloosa County Planning and Zoning Commission voted to keep five Bell Aire Gardens lots zoned single family despite owners requests to reclassify to multi family. Critics argued for office use as a buffer near industrial areas while opponents warned against spot zoning and cited prior assurances of single family zoning. The commission upheld the existing designation with no immediate appeal indicated.
