Tests on area waters probe nutrient sources near Joe's Bayou
A Department of Environmental Regulation spokesman says last Tuesday’s tests in area waters including Joe's Bayou and Old Pass Lagoon are routine and may reveal if nutrients stem from Destin Water Users' sewage plant. District official Jesse Borthwick notes early results show nothing significant. Milonski reports algae buildup at bayou head near Bell-Aire Gardens. Further results expected later this week. Local residents fear drainage ditches along Airport Road carry nutrients from the plant.
