Publisher Jack Becklund announced Destin LOG will move from 106 Marler Street to a new 10,000 square foot facility on Airport Road. Publication will pause Friday and resume Monday July 16, with a seven unit printing press to be operational next week.
Destin developers skirt the Destin Water Users sewer tap moratorium by obtaining county septic tank permits. DWU officials warn the loophole undermines efforts to slow growth until sewer capacity expands. Subcommittee weighs legal avenues for governments to support utilities, while fearing lawsuits if septic bans are attempted.
A two year University of West Florida study for the Florida Department of Natural Resources flags a potentially serious problem with the primary dune line in Okaloosa and Walton counties due to rapid coastal development. The Destin South Walton shoreline is deemed not in bad condition overall, Bay County shows most erosion, and officials warn that near Highway 98 the CCCL may be stressed, threatening dune integrity amid Gulf front expansion.
The Destin Fire District votes to set a one half mill tax for 1984 85 with rollback at .000467 mill saving about 118.73. Public hearing planned Sept 6 at 7 p m in the fire station. Budget workshops to follow each Wednesday at 5 p m. Board considers ladder truck purchase with 400 000 plus cost and bids for Engine Two repairs.
