Maryland Farm Front This Week on 1961 Wheat Program
Maryland's 1961 wheat program largely mirrors prior years says William L. Dudley of the ASC. Marketing quotas take effect after an 87.4 percent referendum, with penalties on excess wheat and a $1.78-per-bushel minimum price support. Acreage allotments stay at 55 million acres with exemptions for within allotment farming and feed-wheat program participants. Penalty remains 45 percent of parity, and loans and purchase agreements will implement the price support from harvest through January 1962. The 1960-61 U.S. wheat supply is projected at a record 2.682 billion bushels.
