State Trooper Activity During The Past Week
State Police report for the past week lists 43 motor vehicle arrests and 96 warnings along with 36 criminal hours investigation and 35 special assignment hours. Total working hours reach 395 with 6,000 miles patrolled. Five property damage accidents and one personal injury accident were investigated. Notable arrests include Florence Harmon Hignatt of Wyoming Delaware for operating under the influence and Lewis Haynes of Preston for drunken on highway. Irvine Thomas of Greensboro charged for operating on suspended license and William Augustus Blackwell of Denton for failing to notify DMV of an uninsured vehicle and for the $8 fee. An accident on Camp Ground Road August 31 at 7:30 PM involved Alven Bush, 44, vehicle damage $65, no injuries. August 5 near Hillsboro on State Route 404 a two-car crash damaged both vehicles ($500 each). Baynard charged with failing to signal turn, Layenby with following too closely. September 3 on Route 313 in Denton a chase end with Charles Blackwell, 21, and Anton Adams, 50, both total losses, no injuries. Blackwell charged with failure to grant right of way.

Former Denton Resident Receives Army Traffic Award
Mrs. Helen G. Bennington, former Denton resident, earned a Sustained Superior Performance Award from Maj. Gen. I. Sewell Morris, for exemplary service as Secretary to the Director of Policy and Plans at the Military Traffic Management Agency from September 1959 to March 1960. Born in Denton and educated at Caroline High School, she later worked for a Denton attorney, then the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in 1935 before joining MTMA three years ago. She and her husband and daughter Beverly reside at 3106 S Hill St, Arlington, Virginia.

Lions Club Drives To Register Voters In Denton
The Lions Club of Denton launches a nationwide Reg ister to Vote campaign starting September 10 in cooperation with over 11 000 Lions Clubs across the United States. President Tasloe Lewis says the effort aims for full voter registration before the November 8 election, a non political, non partisan drive to ensure every eligible voter is registered. Some communities also run the Liberty Bells program, ringing church bells hourly on election days to remind voters that liberty rests on their ballot.

Eagle Cups His Second Feature Georgetown Win
Reds Eagle of Greenbelt Md. won his second straight Georgetown Speedway feature last Friday night after 17 starts. Glenn Guthrie led early but faded. Jackie McLaughlin blew a tire on lap 23 while Eagle battled wheel trouble. Johnny Martin finished second, Paul Walker third, George Harrison fourth. McLaughlin spun in lap 5, Hayes recovered from a spin to rejoin. The 15-lap Hobby was won by Bob Collins. Track records remain unbroken due to mechanical issues.

The General Services Administration invites sealed bids to demolish the former apartment building once occupied by Mrs. George A. McDaniel on the Denton site. The razing aims to clear space for a two story post office building estimated at 439000 dollars. Bids open in Washington on September 16.
