Fatal Auto Crash at Log Cabin Intersection
A three fatality crash occurred Tuesday evening at the State Routes 312 and 404 junction, five miles west of Denton. William Evan Owens died at the scene. John Thomas Lockwood died at Memorial Hospital. Cora Virginia Jones died on arrival. Two passengers, Kenneth Wayne Baker and Ralph Comegys, were listed in critical condition. Police report Lockwood’s southbound car failed to yield at the crossing as Owens westbound car entered.

Ground breaking ceremonies for South Caroline High School were held Monday at 10 a m. The program featured Show Boy March by Federalsburg School Band directed by Joseph Arbogast, invocation by Rev. Donald O. Clendaniel, Pledge of Allegiance led by Phillip Meredith, and national anthem by the Federalsburg Band. Remarks were given by Wilbur S. Hoppengardner and Jerome Frampton Jr. The ceremony included remarks from local officials and school leaders, a closing song by the Preston Glee Club, and benediction by Rev. Carl A. Schuette.

Bad Check Passer Gets 3 Years in Maryland
On Thursday judge Carter sentenced Lawrence S. Carey, 46, of Wilmington, to three years in the Maryland House of Correction for obtaining money by false pretenses after passing a worthless check May 18, 1960, at Marydel. Carey waived extradition and returned from Delaware. Also convicted were Florence Harmon Hignutt and Clarence Smith for drunken driving forfeiture of collateral, George Lawrence of Federalsburg who got 60 days after failing to pay a $100 fine, and James Henry Sanders who forfeited a $153.50 cash bond for assault and battery.
