Maryland Motorist Gas Tax Burden Exceeds 1 Cent Gallon
Maryland motorists paid 1.09 in taxes on 10 gallons of gasoline. State and federal levies brought in 147,413,000 last year, with 52,369,000 from state gas tax and 26,018,000 to the federal. Maryland imposes a 6 cent per gallon tax while the federal adds 4 cents. Nationally motorists paid over 9.5 billion in motorist taxes, much of it diverted to non highways.
