Roads Commission Reports On By-Pass In Denton

In a letter to John W. Asher Jr. chairman of a Citizens Committee Denton’s Roads Commission outlines a plan to finalize field data from Route 404 and Route 313 by pass studies. A formal by pass report will be distributed in October 1960 for committee study amid growing traffic counts and nuisance concerns in the town.

Benefit Softball Game For Mrs Holden Held At Ridgely Park

The Tri County Girls Softball League stages an All Star charity game to aid Mrs Kennard Holden after she broke her ankle in an August 1960 Denton game. Two teams from Chestertown Grasonville Centreville Ingleside Greensboro Denton Ridgely, under lights at 8 pm, Sept 3. Admission 50 cents to cover hospital and medical costs. Graham Film Promises Africa Safari at Harmony Church

The film Africa on the Bridge featuring Billy Graham’s 17000 mile safari for souls will be shown at Harmony Methodist Church in Graham on Sunday Sept 11 at 7 30 p m The service marks the start of evening gatherings after the summer recess The event is led by Rev Richard Bailey.

Oil Tanker Crashes into Denton Bridge on Route 404

The oil tanker S. S. F. A. Verdon struck bridge pilings on the Choptank River at Denton, knocking the draw span out of alignment Monday night. Traffic was rerouted via Routes 50 and 313 until Wednesday afternoon when the span opened for tanker passage and unloading. Repairs continued with ESPS help and a district engineer note that the draw remains damaged and closed to navigation until further notice.

Guthrie Battles To Win Georgetown Main Event

Glenn Guthrie charged from the rear to take the lead in the 25 lap Georgetown Speedway feature as Jack McLaughlin suffered a tire blowout and confusion near the finish. Phil Gemenden finished second with Bill Wark third. the Hobby class saw Jack Sapp win. The night featured fast action, few wrecks, and close racing through the halves.

State's Attorney Reports Last Week's Activities

On August 23 Charles Slaughter was sentenced to 18 months in the Md. State Reformatory for Males by Associate Judge Edward D. E. Rollins in the Circuit Court at Denton for petty larceny of Willbut Cleaves. Earlier, West Thompson testified for parole. On August 22 fines were set: Hastings 10 for disorderly conduct, Taylor 10 for assault, Minns 50 for reckless driving, Lake 20 for obstructing an officer. Boles received 60 days for assault. On August 25 Wright fined Lord 125.69 for speeding, improper passing, and center deviation. Downes 5 for reckless driving. Kessler 15 for tampering with auto. Kessler, a Delaware resident, was jailed 4 days awaiting trial.

WSCS Meeting at Chestertown Educational Seminar and Training Day

Federalsburg By-Pass Bids Due September 6

Bids for the Federalsburg By-Pass project will open September 6. John B. Funk, chairman of the State Roads Commission, announced. The bridge will carry the bypass over Marshy Tope Creek south of Federalsburg. The six-span steel structure is 273 feet long with a 30 foot roadway. The By-Pass, Maryland Route 318, will divert traffic from the town as part of Maryland speed-up construction. It will eventually connect Maryland 313 around Federalsburg to the Delaware line, about 5 miles.

Week of State Trooper Activity Report

The State Police log details a week of incidents in Caroline County Maryland including an August 28 shooting at the Paradise Inn near Federalsburg with James Henry Sanders charged with assault by shooting and Raymond Lee Friend hospitalized in serious condition. Caroline County Names Teaching Staff For New Year

Caroline County announces 41 new teaching hires as schools reopen Sept. 1 for teachers and Sept. 6 for students. Superintendent Wilbur S.
