Silage Versus Alfalfa Hay Feeding Value
University of Maryland extension dairy man Bob Appleman ranks silage by feeding value. Well cared corn silage is about 40 percent of alfalfa hay price, delivering energy comparable to alfalfa when quality is high. Wilted grass silage varies with moisture and quality, approaching corn silage value, while non wilted hay is about three fourths its price.

Research Finds Ideal Short Corn at Maryland Field Day
Dr. R. G. Rothgeb of the University of Maryland told about 200 farmers at the Agronomy Field Day the ideal dwarf or short corn would have ears 18 to 24 inches above ground for easy husking. He noted dwarfs resist wind better but yield less than standard hybrids due to closer leaf node spacing.
