Buddy Shuman of Charlotte North Carolina a nationally known modified stock car driver suffocated in his hotel room in Hickory on Sunday morning November 13. It is believed a cigarette may have fallen on the mattress causing the smoke and fumes. Shuman had raced about 20 years and recently served as NASCAR Technical Inspector racing advisor for Ford in charge of maintenance of two Wild Hog Fords sponsored by Schwam Motor Co. He teamed with Speedy Thompson for years and was regarded as one of the best on any track due to his vast experience with cars. The racing fraternity mourns the passing of a great.
