Governor Proclaims Farm City Week Observance

Governor T R Melkeldin of Maryland urges participation in Farm City Week from November 16 to 22 1956. He asks colleges the Agricultural Extension Service and state agencies to cooperate with farm groups in observance activities highlighting rural urban understanding. The program aims to raise awareness across the U S and Canada and follows last year’s large involvement and a 1955 Freedoms Foundation award.

Scout Victory Dinner At Seaford Inn Last Week

The 1957 Delmarva Council Boy Scouts Fund Campaign surpassed its goal with final reports at the victory dinner at the Seaford Inn Seaford Delaware. Council Chairman John W Noble praised leadership and announced plans to recruit more leaders as he presented awards to district volunteers. Harry Boyer Harrington reported 1957 contributions of 950 with district totals ranging from Dover 4370.50 to Virginia 3031.91 and more pending additions expected to lift the fund by about 5000.

Community Club Holds Successful Workshop

The Denton Community Club hosted a Christmas Workshop on Friday November 2 with 27 members contributing time and labor for charity. Chairwoman Mrs. William G Towers thanked participants and urged returning home projects for the December meeting to coordinate clothing distributions and spread Christmas happiness.

Unity Club to Meet With Mrs Lloyd Haag Nov 21

Unity Club will meet at the home of Mrs Lloyd Haag at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon November 21 with Mrs Walter Shaffer and Mrs George Shaffer Jr assisting. The Family Life leader will present a play A Problem relations between three venerations. Members taking part include Mrs Thomas Flwanger Mrs Marl M. Crouse and Mrs Tlosd. Rol Call topic will be A Simple Christmas Decoration. Selection of Project Leaders will be part of the business. The president Mrs Walter Fountain will preside. All members are invited to come learn and enjoy.

Maryland Delegates Attend 34th Agricultural Outlook Conference

Seven University of Maryland College of Agriculture faculty members will attend the 34th Agricultural Outlook Conference in Washington from November 26 to 29. Participants include Jr. Paul R. Poffenberger and A. B. Hamilton among others from UMD, meeting extension economists from 47 states and Puerto Rico. The four day program covers world and national economic outlooks, long term agricultural trends, and commodity specific forecasts, with discussions led by USDA and economic policy experts.

Allen Mellits and his father Sam Mellits host the 21st annual free Thanksgiving matinee for Denton children at the Dentonia Theatre next Thursday. Mellits, now a University of Maryland graduate and active in the Army, has provided the free event in Denton for twenty one years and invites all local children to attend.

The Easton District Woman's Society of Christian Service will host its annual Day Apart at Union Church Federalsburg on Tuesday November 27 starting at 1030 a.m. with Rev Donald O Clendaniel giving opening prayer. The fifth annual Christmas Bazaar sponsored by the WSCS of First Methodist Church Denton transforms Fellowship Hall into Santa's Workshop on November 29 and 30. Elves decorate indoors and outdoors with booths named Santa's Pantry the Sweet Shop Bib ny Tucker Corner Tiny Tot Shop and the Gift Nook. Santa's Pack Grab Bag offers children a special treat. Sewing Machine Training Meeting for Leaders in Cambridge

Eight Caroline County 4- H leaders and the Assistant Home Demonstration Agent attended a Know Your Sewing Machine training at the Cambridge Sewing Center led by Miss Bouchard. Lessons 1 and 2 covered Know Your Sewing Machine and Adjustment and Care of Your Sewing Machine with plans for lessons 3 and 4 and future sessions in December.

John Orban Jr of Federalsburg topped the Fire Prevention Week Essay Contest, sponsored by the Caroline County Firemen's Association. He received a 25 dollar savings bond and 5 dollars from the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Co. as Federalsburg’s school winner. Carolyn Dukes of Greensboro took second and a standard prize.

James B. Dike Injured In Auto Accident Near Wyoming

James B. Dike twelve years old of Denton is hospitalized at Kent General Hospital Dover after a late Saturday automobile crash on the Wyoming Hazelville road two and a half rollovers. He suffered severe face and head injuries. His wife is the former Miss Jula Wilson of town.
