Power Industry Builds Small Machine at Illinois University
The University of Illinois will construct a 25 foot square machine to replicate the state power network using less current than a household oven. Costing about 50000 dollars, largely funded by three Illinois power companies, it will aid in planning, teaching, and research and is expected to be operational by fall 1951. It will simulate optimal power line placement, emergency load sharing, overload mitigation, and infrastructure needs, with broader uses in pipelines, soil movement, and antenna studies.
