The Maryland State Roads Commission released plans and contracts totaling 2,797,492 for current Eastern Shore highway work. The package covers 31.41 miles of new roads 4.74 miles of widening and resurfacing with a regional share of a 40 million dollar annual program.

A May 7 reception at Denton Armory honored Mildred C Johnson of Denton Worthy Grand Matron and Price E Wilson of Salisbury Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter Maryland Order of the Eastern Star. About four hundred guests from Maryland and Delaware attended as decorations featured green and white and the motto Kindness and Forbearance One Towards Another. The program included a Maypole dance by local girls, humorous readings, songs by the First Methodist Church Junior Choir, and dancing to Lou Startt and his orchestra.

Memorial services to honor our war dead will be held at 4 30 p m Sunday 29th of May at the Denton cemetery. If rain the services move to 6 30 p m Monday. A parade to the school ground opposite the Armor will follow with a Retreat Parade and Review for the community. Participants include National Guard Legion and Auxiliary Firemen and Auxiliary and Scouts. A distinguished speaker is being approached and reviewing personnel will be former Denton field officers. Fire Destroys Broiler Houses Near Milford Route 14
A blaze Sunday afternoon destroyed new wood-framed broiler houses on George Stopes farm near Argos about five miles south of Milford on Route 14. Twenty thousand chickens to be housed Tuesday were lost as sawdust and flare-ups fueled the fire. Cause undetermined. state police directed traffic as Milford Ellendale Milton fire brigades fought the flames amid heavy road congestion.
