Record of Honor 1942 46 WACs Fourth Birthday
More than 25 000 members of the Women's Army Corps will observe the fourth anniversary of their organization on May 14. The celebration marks the first peacetime observance of the Corps and highlights its essential role as Wacs remain in uniform while 75 000 have returned to civilian life. The War Department notes Wacs serve in hospitals, separation centers, and Army Headquarters, with over 2 200 in the European Theater and 112 in China. Reentry of honorably discharged Wacs is being accepted to help fill manpower shortages. Wars encourage continued service and volunteers to extend terms.
