Poppy Day will be observed in Caroline County and nationwide on Saturday May 25. Mrs O E Roberts president of Caroline Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary announces distribution of memorial poppies by volunteers to honor dead from both world wars. Proceeds fund welfare and rehabilitation for disabled veterans and families. Poppies crafted by disabled veterans at Perry Point Hospital under Maryland Auxiliary guidance.

Greensboro Boy To Participate In Atomic Bomb Experiments
Devereaux B Nashold Jr of Greensboro and Mrs G Harrison Nashold were among ten U S Navy boys in Shanghai who volunteered for atomic bomb experiments in the Marshall Islands this July. The group traveled by plane via Okinawa Guam Kewajalein and Johnston to Pearl Harbor. Nashold served aboard the USS Fall River which became the flagship for the naval forces in Operation Crossroads. Nashold is eighteen and enlisted in March 1945, with eight months in China before returning to Shanghai after the assignment.

The Cattle Exchange at Denton opened on Wednesday May 11 drawing 4000 to 5000 visitors including livestock buyers farmers and visitors from Delaware Pennsylvania and Virginia. Parking for 500 cars was filled and trucks lined the highway as cattle hogs and horses sold to the highest bidder. Auctioneers Leonard Covey and Dawson Stafford led a long day with plans to speed operations and make next week smoother.

Mrs D L Dougherty of Denton won a Philco Radio at a Cattle Exchange event last Wednesday May 1. The radio, claimed as the first seen in Maryland, was sent from the Philco factory via James H Carmine, local merchant in charge of merchandising to Roger and Barton Fasten’s dealership. The Cattle Exchange plans an auction sale for farmers in its new building Wednesday.
