Insects Seek Germ of Seed Corn for Food Says Entomologist

The germ attracts pests like the flat grain beetle almond moth and Indian meal moth, which can make early attacks on seed corn. A 3 to 1 mix of ethylene dichloride and carbon tetrachloride is cited as the safest fumigant to protect seed corn from damage.
