Fire near Denton destroys 25 swine on farm
Clarence J. Kern’s farm near Denton suffered a hog house blaze caused by defective wiring in an electric brooder. Four sows and 20 pigs perished, a 150 pound shoat was lost, while 45 shoats were saved by Roy Mowbray as Denton Volunteer Fire Company secured other buildings. The fire began about half an hour after Kern left for Baltimore on business.

A two year old boy Rickey Engles vanished near Ridgely Maryland on Sunday evening triggering a massive search. A German shepherd dog was found later by William Roberts indicating the child may have wandered away into marshy woods near the Choptank River.
