Keystone Automobile Club lists income tax deductions for motorists including gasoline tax, registration and license fees, loan interest, insurance and uninsurable losses, and business use expenses. It notes capital loss rules, depreciation limits, and a proportional allowance for mixed use, while outlining non deductible items such as the federal gasoline tax and personal car expenses.
An Eastern Shore music festival on Saturday May 6 at Maryland State Teachers College Salisbury gathers glee clubs and choruses from four junior and senior high schools across seven counties Caroline Dorchester Kent Queen Annes Somerset Wicomico Worcester. The Planning Committee led by Mrs Jessie L Fleming invites the public to a day of solo and ensemble performances culminating in a mass chorus. Further details to follow from Dr J D Blackwell and committee members.
A woods and brush blaze six miles from town burned about 35 acres including 15 acres of timber and 20 acres of grass. One volunteer fireman, Mason Clopper of Denton, was badly burned on the face. Two other firemen received minor injuries as crews from Denton Greensboro and Harrington contained the fire on the Fravis Saunders farm. The home and buildings were undamaged and owner Mrs Trice expects to occupy the farm soon.
The Dover YMCA Eastern Shore Invitation Basketball Tournament begins Saturday night at Dover High Field House with seven teams from Delaware and Maryland. Denton Bobcats seek title defense while Cambridge Clippers arrive 18-0, and Georgetown County Seaters boast top scorer Bill Koehler as opening pairings pit Fort Miles vs Harrington Legionnaires and Delaware City vs Cambridge Clippers.
District Supervisor E V Evans Jr announced March 8 as opening date for the Mary land County Census crew training in Salisbury. Lindsay E Clendaniel of Denton was named crew leader to supervise field work and train enumerators in April, with Leonard Smith teaching the school.
The Denton Girl Scouts district holds a meeting at Mrs. Hugh Ramsey's home on Greensboro Road with chairman Mrs. T C Fleetwood presiding. Plans announce the Girl Scout Balls at the Denton Armory on March 11 from 10 AM to 3 PM with an all day program themed International Friendship. The meeting notes a $35 donation from the Denton Community Club to establish a building fund and mentions bake sales by Troop 3 and Brownie Troop to support polio victims and dues givers.

T Carville Fleetwood announced the Denton Rotary Club has secured magician Tom Osborne for the Father Sons Daughters Banquet at the Brick Hotel on March 14 1950. The event is a highlight of the Rotary year and well received by members and their children.
Coon dog field trials set for Sunday March 19 1950 near Ingleside Maryland with finals prize of 150. Free entry offered until March 12 1950. Mail entries to Edgar E Walls Henderson Maryland by March 12 indicating junior or senior status or be drawn in Senior Heats. Heats drawn March 13 with owner notified. Grounds refreshments. No liability for accidents. All dogs pooled and owners responsible.
Hamilton Hallowell announces the Annual Spring Fashion Show presented by Caroline Unit 29 of the American Legion Auxiliary and Benjamins of Salisbury. Models include names from Denton and other county towns with Mrs Hargraves, Miss Canton, Mrs Magrogan and Mrs Layton among out of town participants. Tickets urged.

The Denton branch of the Junior Auxiliary with Easton and Federalsburg Auxiliaries funded hospital equipment. Additions include nurses home showers, reference books, a refrigerator, electric plate, bassinets, incubators, oxygen tent, bedside tables, cribs, service trays, chairs, fans, lamps, physiotherapy gear, and waiting room furniture. Public support enabled the hospital upgrades.
Five-County Girl Scout Leaders' Group sponsors a Saturday rally in the Denton farmory inviting lone troops from Maryland's Eastern Shore and Virginia. The event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with International friendship as the theme, overseas kits, and a Holland folk dance led by Oscar Schmidt of Sudlersville. Mrs. Austin R. Roberts presides in the absence of Ars. K. Thomas Everngam.
Congressman Edward T. Miller warned Eastern Shore farmers that government wheat loan storage space in Baltimore and Philadelphia could be severely limited this summer. A Blandford report cites 2.1 million bushels stored and predicts over a million Maryland loan wheat may be taken over by April 30, with export or storage options constrained by weak markets and garlic byproduct issues. The Eastern Shore may face tighter space via a crop permit system, undermining first come first served advantages.
The 1950 Conservation Essay Contest invites Maryland youths under twenty as of April 15 to submit essays on Soil Fertility and the Nations Future. Sponsored by the National Grange with the American Plant Food Council, prizes total ten thousand dollars. First to third in Maryland win 100 50 25 dollars. national awards range from 1000 to 300 dollars. Submissions due April 15 to the nearest subordinate Grange. State Judge Dr. T B Symons of the University of Maryland participates.
Mylo S. Downey, State Boys 4 H Club Leader, says parental support helps 4 H members balance school, farm duties, and family life. He urges parents to get to know county extension agents and the club leader, the quarterback, and join the 4 H team.
Earle White, Pure Oil distributor in the area, was a special guest at a full day Pure Oil Company meeting in Salisbury Maryland March 8 at the Wicomico Hotel. The event, directed by H E Russell, introduced a new line of automotive oils and greases for the Eastern Shore dealers.
The Easton Shore League best of three playoffs begin Friday night March 10 at the Denton Armory with the Denton Bobcats hosting the Federalsburg Feds. A second game is set for March 15 in Federalsburg and a possible third at Denton later next week after semifinals saw Federalsburg defeat Cambridge and Denton beat Georgetown. Denton led series in regular play three wins to one but Federalsburg has improved, beating Cambridge twice in the semis.
Denton Soccer Club meets Ridgely at Schaub Park for the first of a two game total score contest to decide the Eastern Shore Soccer League champion. Ridgely visits March 19 for the second game as the series determines the title.
The first Maryland 30 day General Assembly adjourned sine die on March 2 after the Senate refused to vote on the House veterans' bonus. Budget and general welfare measures drove the session while many bills were lost when not returned for concurrence.
