Maryland Farm Front This Week Poultry Advisory Committee Meets
The Maryland Poultry Advisory Committee the first in the U S to be named held its initial meeting February 24 1949 at College Park chaired by Joseph H Blandford. It discussed PMA program relations and industry problems predicting price trouble ahead for broilers and turkeys and urged producers to improve poultry quality. Sign up for 1949 ACP enrollment rose to 7975 farmers by January 31 in reporting counties, boosted by interest in soil practices. Hog price supports extended to March 1950 at 90 percent of parity to stabilize last half of the 1940-1950 marketing period, guiding plans for next fall and winter production.

Extending Marketing Support Affects Period of Marketings
If support falls mid period on December 31, 1949, marketings may surge before that date and tighten afterward. Maintaining the same level spreads marketings more evenly across the full period, reducing peaks and shortages.
