Summit Bridge Closed Indefinitely
The Buck Bridge at Summit is closed to vehicular traffic indefinitely due to settlement of the north abutment and perceived danger. The War Department is studying options to possibly allow light traffic in the future. In the meantime a ferry at Chesapeake City on Route 213 operates on the hour and half hour, then returns on the quarter and three quarter hours.

Electric Unit Meeting Called
The eleventh annual meeting of patrons of Choptank Electric Cooperative will be held at Dentonia Theatre in Denton March 7 at 1 p m. J P Schaenger, head of the electro agriculture section of the technical Electrification Association, Washington, will be the principal speaker. Denton resident Anna Mae White suffered a possible skull fracture and lacerations when her car left Wyoming Willows Road and struck a concrete abutment. She was listed in serious condition at Kent General Hospital in Dover after the Tuesday night crash.

Farm Institute Well Attended in Caroline County
The Farm Institute held Monday and Tuesday, February 21 and 22, at Caroline High School Auditorium drew a large crowd. Extension Dairyman Joe Pou of College Delk discussed dairy herd efficiency and profits, noting Maryland cows average over 5,000 pounds of milk and 200 pounds butterfat, versus 8,000 pounds and 250 pounds for Dairy Herd Improvement members. He urged 16,000 pounds and 400 pounds as a goal, stressing good feed, pasture, silage, and breeding. Other topics covered hybrid corn varieties for Caroline County, balanced hog rations, limestone and fertilizer use, and tomato spraying. Dr. M. H. Kerr warned pigs per litter should be 5 to break even, 8–10 to profit, with pasture aiding pork costs and parasite control. Dr. Carroll Cox reported tomato spray/dusting benefits, recommending plant spacing of about 3 1/2 feet between rows and 4 feet between plants. Sessions emphasized fertilization and insect control to ensure cannable quality. Luncheon sponsored by A. W. Sisk & Son. poultry talks urged better broilers and sanitation, with Dr. I. M. Moulthrop advising Newcastle disease vaccination at 4 weeks.
