Caroline County's quota for 1949 Cancer campaign is 31,80000. Geo P. Mahoney, State Campaign Chairman, announced the county goal and state total of 230,000. Mrs. Wm. F. Wolf of Denton heads the local drive for funds to support education, service and research during April. The American Cancer Society allocated 3,200,000 for 1949 cancer research. The message urges early detection and treatment to improve cure chances.

Representatives from almost all county districts met at Mrs. Harry Nuttle's home on March 15 for a lively Nurses' Board session. Tribute was paid to Mrs. Ramsdell on her eighty first birthday and to Miss Stella Williams for devoted service with the Public Health Service. Caroline County commissioners Tuesday advanced a plan to introduce a 750000 bond measure for school improvements with a referendum at the 1950 general election. The board of education had proposed 2600000 and rejected a special election due to an 8000 election cost. Emmett Hignatt noted the taxpayer burden, while the education board led by W Stewart Fitzgerald hosted the commissioners at dinner at the Brick Hotel with Jerome Frampton Jr Virgil Moore and Roger Ringgold present.

Fire Gut Ford Garage Showroom in West Denton
A spectacular blaze gutted the unfinished Ford Agency Garage of Stewart E. Hallowell and Son in West Denton on Wednesday morning. Scaffolding collapse toppled an oil heater, drawing Denton Volunteer Fire Company and neighboring Ridgely and Cordova crews to control the fire, with two alarms diverting units to a controlled grass fire on South Second street. Officials estimate a $10,000 loss and about three weeks of work to reopen the showroom.
